Federal IT Guidance Updated for macOS Sequoia Deployment

The Federal CIO Council has issued updated guidance on macOS Sequoia adoption for civilian agencies. The new memo clarifies the approval timeline and security baseline requirements.

Key Points

Agencies can begin deploying macOS Sequoia 15.1 or later on non-classified systems effective immediately. The guidance emphasizes that earlier versions (15.0) should not be deployed due to unresolved compatibility issues with government security tools.

STIG Availability

DISA expects to release the macOS Sequoia STIG by end of Q1 2025. Until then, agencies should apply the macOS Sonoma STIG with Sequoia-specific modifications available on DISA’s website.

Action Required

Agency IT teams should review the full guidance document on MAX.gov and update their deployment plans accordingly. Questions can be directed to the Federal Desktop Core Configuration working group.
